Doohan died at his home in the Seattle suburb of Redmond, Washington, of complications from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, about a year after he was diagnosed with the degenerative neurological illness, manager Steve Stevens said in an interview.

NEW YORK - Peter Jennings, the suave, Canadian-born broadcaster who delivered the news to Americans each night in five separate decades, died Sunday. He was 67.

Them cigarettes will get you eventually. For a high school drop-out, I'd say he did pretty well for himself. Hard to believe Rather, Brokaw and Jennings are all replaced after sharing the airwaves for so many years together.
My mother died of lung cancer 5 weeks after her diagnosis.
Good Morning America had a great tribute to Jennings, the anchors were teary eyed and their voices were breaking throughout the broadcast. They interviewed Brokaw, Rather and the guy from Nightline...can't remember his name. Very touching. He was well respected.

I just went and checked and apparently Nightline is still on although I can't find the air time or the host on their site. I imagine it's still 11:30 p.m. on ABC.
I remember when he announced he had cancer. It was very shocking, but he said that he had taken up smoking again after the 9/11 attacks. Our prayers out to his family and loved ones. An icon of American television passes onto legend status.
In an old clip of him as a field correspondent, a very cool, confident Jennings had a cigarette dangling from his mouth like a Sean Connery James Bond.
Christopher Reeves' widow has been diagnosed with lung cancer although she isn't a smoker.
Also, Jim Kelly's eight year old son succombed to Krabbe's disease.
Dead this week are the marriages of Zellweger-Chesney (4 months - being annuled for 'fraud'?!?!) and Ms Beverly Hills 90210 herself Tori Spelling (1 year). Does that count???
Also gone is Sid Luft. Judy Garland's 3rd husband. Well know for being a raging drunk and used to knock sweet Dorothy around!
Holy crap, look who the crypt keeper dug up! How ya doin', Melissa?
Short celebrity marriages come as no surprise. Many of them seem to get hitched shortly after meeting each other...sooner than it takes to really get to know someone.
I stay away just long enough for you to get past being glad to see me go and switch to missing me! So I'm back for the time being. Just long enough until you're sick of me again!
No one good died in the news...but speaking of dead people check out that Tupac is spelt backwards! Guess he never had a chance!
Another good holocause author is Eli Weisel. He wrote a book called "Night" and it gave me nightmares. It was his experience in a Concentration camp when he was 14, which is my sons age now.
One scene was the Nazis were walking them into the camp area, but first they marched them straight toward a pit that was on fire with dead bodies. They thought they were being marched straight into the fire and he had to hear his father crying saying he wished they had died on the way to camp because he did not want to watch his son die in the fire. I am sure they were in shock at that point. They turned them and made them march along the line of the pit to see all the dead bodies burning..then beat them as they herded them into barracks. He saw other horrible things too terrible to print here and he ended that paragraph with "I was 14" I had to put it down because I was too shaken up. I tried to keep the images of my own son in that situation, out of my head.
Simon Weisenthal should be remembered as one of the great men of history. His contributions help future generations learn what should never be forgotten.
I'm sure the written page doesn't capture just how bad it was no matter how horrible it sounds. A reader can't feel the pain, hunger, indignity and shock, the loss of loved ones, smell the stench. I imagine one would begin to feel the dead were the lucky ones after facing day after day in those camps. How an adult, let alone a child, coped in those conditions, I don't know.

The pooch with the hairless body, crooked teeth and sparse tuft of hair atop his knobby head died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, just short of his 15th birthday, according to his owner, Susie Lockheed.
